Nasi Lemak

Nasi Lemak is a dish that contains rice made fragrant with coconut cream and pandan leaves. It is of Malay origin and is traditionally accompanied by fried anchoviesm sliced cucumber and chilli paste called sambal.

The sambal is the most important part of the dish. Sambal is a combination of dried chillies, shallots, garlic and belacan (shrimp paste), sometimes with sliced lemongrass added.

The dish is one of the cheapest meals offered in local food courts and hawker centres and a variety of side dishes can be eaten along with it.
